Where We Went

At DDI, we pride ourselves in giving back to our local community throughout the year. As a team, we shut our doors one day each quarter, so we can partner with a local ministry and volunteer with them. During the month of May, we served alongside those at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. They are a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1980 and is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network.

What We Did

During our spring Day of Service, our team helped people shop at the Gleaners Food Bank pantry. We were grateful for the opportunity to assist this organization by providing extra helping hands that were able to help move, sort, collect and pile for other families who needed this support. It was rewarding to see that our time at Gleaners Food Bank was well spent and will help end hunger here in our own state.

What They Do

Gleaners Food Bank is a community leader who has worked tirelessly to fight to end hunger. They know that several thousands of Hoosiers don’t know where they will get their next meal. To assist those children, adults and senior citizens, Gleaners distributes food to more than 210 partner hunger relief agencies in 21 Indiana counties, partners, and directly to children and senior citizens through specialty programs.

A study showed that more than one million Hoosiers have a need for food assistance. Our neighbors struggle daily to decide whether they will buy food or pay for the bills they need to pay to keep the lights on or a roof over their heads. Gleaners has been working to ensure that everyone’s food needs are met.

Additionally, Gleaners became a part of the Feeding America initiative that includes 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. Collectively, they provide food and service to over 46 million people annually.
