Where We Went
DDI shuts its doors four times a year to go out into the local community and give back. This quarter, we chose to give back and spend a Day of Service at the Christamore House. This historic settlement house, located in Indianapolis, is just a short distance outside of downtown.
What We Did
During our team Day of Service, we worked together as a group to sort and pack care packages to give to people who are homeless, as well as other families in need. Our team also helped by moving furniture.
What They Do
At Christamore House, LaToya Pitts gave our DDI Team a wonderful tour of the facility. She explained all of the services the Christamore House provides. They provide service to the residents of Haughville and the near Westside of Indianapolis.
We learned that the Indianapolis Colts donated both money and time to create a wonderful recreational room in the basement. This is where the children can exercise and play games.
A 3D printer owned by the facility helps children learn to program and build by using math and science. Everything there was educational based for the children.
It was amazing to learn that the Christamore House offers more than one service for children. They provide before and after school care, summer camp, daycare, and fresh daily meals. If that weren’t enough, they have a Senior Care facility across the street. Their Senior Care center provides residents and the outside public a place to socialize and stay safe.
What You Can Do
If you would like to get involved and help out the Christamore House, you can do so by donating your time or money to help their cause. When we all give a Day of Service, we make this world a much better place!
